They are also now asking not to share info on social media (just to be clear, I asked and was given permission to do so initially).
It appears BABYMETAL are going to be featured on the NHK music show “SONGS OF TOKYO”, and they are even looking for BABYMETAL fans to participate!
“SONGS OF TOKYO” is a program produced by NHK WORLD with the idea of showcasing Japanese culture ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. The event takes place over 2 days: Saturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th, from 6 PM to 10 PM (JST). BABYMETAL will be featured on Sunday, October 11th. IT will air later in the year.
You can watch the 2 previous shows, from BISH and milet, on the Songs of Tokyo page on the NHK website. The program is a mix of Q&A’s, watching messages from fans, and performances. The show is on NHK World and has subtitles.
For the main shows, such as this one, they appear to do the whole show and then air it months later. For example last year they recorded on September 12th and 13th, and it was broadcast in late October/early November, with the full thing being broadcast in the first months of 2020. But with that said, BISH’s episode from last month was broadcast on August 24th, and recorded within at least the few weeks before (or done live, but the fan parts were pre-recorded).
From what one participating fan said, they used about less than a minute from a 45 minute interview, which was done on August 8th, a few weeks before the show aired.
As said at the top, this is not 100% confirmed yet. It was only posted by a Reddit account (and crossposted to the BABYMETAL subreddit), but the person managing that account indeed appears to be related to NHK, so it looks pretty legitimate.
But until it’s posted by the NHK website or social media, I don’t want to say 100% confirmed.

Hey all! Nelson here, the English producer of NHK World-Japan’s SONGS OF TOKYO (https://www.nhk.or.jp/songsoftokyo/). You guys have been so great in our recent episodes (BiSH, with Masayuki Suzuki and MIYAVI coming up!), that our producers want to feature more international fans during the actual live festival happening on October 10th and October 11th!
Our goal is to find up to 3 international fans for each participating artist to join in on our event LIVE right from their home!
